Area of Specialization

Sato specializes in research on Konosuke Matsushita and his PHP Philosophy.
He engages in wide-ranging, multi-dimensional research into Matsushita's views on the universe, human beings, life, society, and in particular his management philosophy, and has edited and produced books on these subjects.

Profile

Sato joined PHP Institute, Inc. in 1980 after graduating from Keio University's Faculty of Letters. He devoted himself to research into the PHP Philosophy and founder Konosuke Matsushita's views on such topics as management and human nature. At the same time, he authored, edited, and produced related publications, tapes, CD collections, and other materials. During this time he attended meetings of the PHP Philosophy Research Study, chaired by Institute Director Konosuke Matsushita himself, helping to formalize the PHP Philosophy.
Beginning in 1989, as one of the project leaders, he compiled the 45-volume Collected Speeches of Konosuke Matsushita, which was completed in February 1993. In April 2002, he became Director of the First Research Division (currently the Research Division). In December 2011, he became Executive Director. He is a special lecturer at Bunri University of Hospitality and a member of the Forum for Entrepreneurial Studies.

Tsuneo Kawakami

Tsuneo Kawakami

Area of Specialization

Kawakami specializes in research on Konosuke Matsushita, religious studies, and sociology.
He engages in research on the relationship between modern philosophy and Matsushita's way of thinking. He is also interested in sociology studies, in particular the national and international awareness of Matsushita's philosophy.

Profile

Kawakami joined Nikkei Inc. as a journalist and editor after graduating from Hitotsubashi University's Department of Economics in 1991.
In 2000, he graduated from the University of Essex in the UK, and received his M.A. in Sociology. In 2006 he became a researcher at Nanzan Institute for Religion and Culture, and in 2007 was an assistant professor of management philosophy for a seminar sponsored by Kyocera at Kyoto University's Graduate School of Management. In 2008, he joined PHP Institute, Inc. after receiving his Ph.D. in Religious Studies from Lancaster University in the UK.

Yusuke Watanabe

Yusuke Watanabe

Area of Specialization

Watanabe specializes in research on Konosuke Matsushita and management philosophy and history.
He devotes himself to research on Japanese renowned entrepreneurs, including Panasonic founder Konosuke Matsushita and their management philosophies. Moreover, he engages in research on the relationship between Matsushita's management philosophy and other philosophies, in particular organizational behavior and management studies.

Profile

Watanabe joined PHP Institute, Inc. in 1986 after graduating from the University of Tsukuba's College of Policy and Planning Sciences. After the Promotion and Circulation Division, he was assigned to the Publishing Division in May 1988 and edited and produced books. In October 1995 he transferred to the Research Division, where he was responsible for editing publications relating to Konosuke Matsushita. For three years since April 1998, he was engaged in compiling Konosuke Matsushita Studies. In April 2001, he entered the graduate school of Osaka University, majoring in Japanese Economics and Management, and received his M.A. in Economics two years later.
In March 2011, he became editor-in-chief of PHP Business Review. Currently he is general manager of the Department of Matsushita Philosophy, Research Division and a member of the Forum for Entrepreneurial Studies.

Hiroshi Ohe

Hiroshi Ohe

Area of Specialization

Ohe specializes in research on Konosuke Matsushita and education issues.

Profile

Ohe joined PHP Institute, Inc. in 1986 after graduating from the Faculty of Letters at the University of Toyama, Department of Philosophy. He was assigned to the Promotion and Circulation Division, the First Research Division, and then the Training Center after entering PHP. He became a member of the National Commission on Education Reform consultative council headed by the prime minister of Japan in 2000. In 2001, he became senior research fellow at the Department of Matsushita Philosophy. In addition, since 2005 he has participated in parenting and educational research and development activities.
Currently, Ohe is General Manager of the General Administration Department, and a member of the Child Raising Committee in Kyoto.

Takaya Yoshida

Takaya Yoshida

Profile

Born in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan in 1958, Mr. Yoshida worked at a publishing house in Tokyo from 1982. He joined the PHP Editors Group in 1988 and had been editing publications by the PHP Institute. Involved in the Social Service Activities Division of the Institute since 1999, he became the department head of General Affairs Department in the Research Division of Management Philosophy. In October 2015 he was promoted to the post of Associate Director of Planning and Promotion Department. He is also a certified social worker, vocational counselor and in charge of PHP's telephone counselling and active listening courses.

Shin-ichi Sakamoto

Shin-ichi Sakamoto

Area of Specialization

Sakamoto specializes in research on the history of Japanese economic thought. His primary area of interest is Matsushita's philosophy studies from the point of view of Japanese economic and intellectual history. In addition, he has devoted himself to analyzing a new explanation of Matsushita's philosophy in accordance with the modern intellectual history of Buddhism and the history of Buddhist economics in Japan.

Profile

In 1994, Sakamoto graduated from Dokkyo University's Faculty of Foreign Languages, Department of German.
In 1997, he received his M.A. in Human & Environment Studies from the graduate school of Kyoto University.
In 2000, he received his Ph.D. from Osaka City University's Graduate School of Economics.
In 2004, Sakamoto joined PHP Institute, Inc. after serving as a part-time researcher at Keio University Library.
In 2006, he became a senior research fellow, and since April 2013 he has been the coordinator of the General Administration Department in the Research Division.

Ryoji Shimada

Profile

After having matriculated at Stockholm University as an exchange student in 1996, Shimada graduated from the Faculty of Law at Chuo University, Tokyo. He was employed by a publishing company in Tokyo where he was responsible for editing English publications and workbooks. In September 2008 he joined PHP Institute, where he served as deputy editor-in-chief for “Japan Close-Up” an English monthly magazine, and for which he interviewed various business people and contributed numerous articles. Presently, Shimada is assigned to the international public relations section where he is involved in overseas PR, translation and interpretation, as well as business training for inbound non-Japanese business executives. He is also certified as a Licensed Tour Guide.

Cice Chan

Profile

Cice Chan graduated in 2009 from the University of Hong Kong, School of Modern Language and Culture, with a degree in Japanese Studies. She had studied in Japan on an exchange program at International Christian University. Two years later, she was awarded her Master degree in Japanese Studies from The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Chan worked at the University of Hong Kong for three years before joining PHP Institute, Inc. in 2013. Currently, she is assigned to the Department of Planning and Promotion, Division of International Public Relations. In addition to various public relations and promotion activities, she performs translation and organizes training seminars for business leaders from abroad. She is a member of The Asian Studies Association of Hong Kong.
